In order to benefit fully from the lecture and participate, you need to do 2 things for preparation:

• Gather the following supplies:
  • About 10 blank index cards
  • Highlighters in 6 specific colors  (click here to see the recommended ones like what Jaime uses)
• Print the handout — at least the first 4 pages. (click here to see the handout)

Homework for Part 1

1. Answer the questions for TPO 54 Passage 1. Track your results and calculate your score with a Tracking Sheet
2. Memorize flashcards A through I (daily, 5 min each day x 5-6 days)
3. Highlight the following passages from the printed handout. Below, in parentheses, I have written my quick preliminary guesses about what kind of keywords you may find in the passages.
   • TPO 54 Passage 2 – Megafauna (argument / theory)
   • TPO 54 Passage 3 – Elements of Life (argument / theory)
   • TPO 53 Passage 1 – Evidence of Earliest Writing (historical comparison)
   • TPO 53 Passage 2 – Rainforest Soils (exposition / problem-solution OR cause-effect)
4. Answer the questions for those TPO’s by repeating the same process in step 1 above.
