Good morning. It’s Jaime Miller, the TOEFL Breakthrough Coach, and I am making a cup of coffee. Got my Pacific Bold. I wanted to let you know that in 2020 18 of my students finished with TOEFL and that’s not just including even the students that got, you know, an improvement in their scores in one way or another, but 18 people who actually walked away from the exam for good.
I’m just going to start my coffee. And what I know about people who are finishing with TOEFL is that they are incredibly ambitious. So you’re probably getting up early, staying up late, finding time at work to make sure that you’re, you know, putting in your time with TOEFL. And I wanted to give you a little tip about one thing that I saw with the people who got results last year.
The thing that’s really similar about all those pharmacists and physical therapists is not that TOEFL was easy. In fact, all of those people told me when they started studying with me, that TOEFL was the hardest thing that they had ever done. It was the hardest test, you know, they considered giving up, it made them question everything about their life. So TOEFL for all of those people was a struggle, not something like you see in some of the, you know, Facebook groups where people say that they studied for like two hours and then got incredible results, but you know, people have to really work for it. And so my tip for you today is to make sure that you’re putting in at least 10 to 15 hours a week studying for the exam.
And like, I am really serious when I say 10 to 15 hours a week, you have to really look at your habits and ask yourself, are you putting in two to three hours a day on a regular basis to make sure that you’re getting the kind of automatic accuracy with speaking or writing that is essential to get those scores of 26, or those writing scores of 24?
Because the thing is that if you’re not putting that time in on a regular basis, you will not have the skill that must be there when you go take your test. So you have to have that kind of time that you’re dedicating on a regular energy. I mean, that kind of time, I’m still performing coffee. You have to have that kind of time that you’re willing to dedicate on a regular basis.
And if you are then the next part of it is what are you doing during that time? And how are you spending that 10 to 15 hours a week? Because that also makes a really big difference. You know, you can have a car with a full tank of gas, but if you drive in the wrong direction, you’re never going to reach your stop, your destination. So you need to have a navigation system that’s leading you towards your goal. And when it comes to TOEFL you need a navigation system that is leading you towards your speaking 26, and your writing 24. If you don’t have that, it’s going to take you longer to find the destination or you’re going to get frustrated and you might give up. So studying with me is basically a way of having that navigation system.
And I will tell you that right now, if you go visit my website, jaimemiller.com, you will find that there is a series of classes called the Understand How to Get, Understand How to Get R23+, Understand How to Get S26+, Understand How to Get W24+. And those programs are super valuable.
